"I was a nowhere child from the then isolated farming hamlet of East Wardell, who grew up against the odds to be a poet and a painter. I came on my own to Sydney Town in 1962, as 'cities bestowed the gift of loneliness and privacy [on the ambitious...where they could] escape from the [taunts and] tyranny of small-town majority...at the cost of a blank canvas, on which to discover a [true] portrait [of themselves, and to seek] heights of excellence [that may be] taboo in [their] small village.' (Lewis Lapin (unsure of spelling), as heard on Radio National one day in my painting studio).
My cover painting, 'Long Distance Poet' (created January 2019, in my seventy-seventh year), is my true 'discovered' portrait in my twilight years, along with my thirty books (published since 1982)."
